《空想金閣寺》は、京都・鹿苑寺の金閣（舎利殿）をモチーフとした映像インスタレーションです。本作では、1950年の放火事件により焼失する以前の金閣を写した記録映像と、ウェブからサンプリングされた再建後の金閣の画像を、独自のアルゴリズムで合成し、提示しています。過去と現在の金閣の画像を比較し、その中間の色情報を用いて画素を再構成することで、超解像化された架空の金閣が生成されていきます。

Imaginary Golden Pavilion is a video installation inspired by the Golden Pavilion (Shariden) at Rokuonji Temple in Kyoto. The work uses a unique algorithm to synthesize and present a video record of the Golden Pavilion before it was destroyed by arson in 1950, and an image of the reconstructed Golden Pavilion sampled from the web. By comparing images of the Golden Pavilion from the past and present and reconstructing the pixels using the color information between them, a super-resolved fictional Golden Pavilion is generated.
